Our Discover Together team has worked very diligently to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) opportunities to both the elementary schools and the High School, with the goal to expose students to these areas of study as much as possible. Also, hoping to spark an interest in high school students to these areas of study. They could choose technical paths, associate degrees, or four-year degrees.
Mr. Jere Matty from A.E.D.C Stem Center brought the Discovery Dome to Tracy City Elementary, and Grundy County High School, where participants were able to see stars, planets, and more projected on the inside of the dome. Mr. Matty also taught students at T.C.E.S to make straw rockets while visiting Camp Discover Learning Lab.
Discover Together partnered with Carole Thomas from University Space Institute to provide two days of STEM activities at the Grundy County High School. Several partners involved included: Jere Matty, AEDC Stem Center, Carole Thomas, University of Space Institute, Tennessee Tech Student Ambassadors and Tennessee State University. High School students had the opportunity to program Finch robots, make small scale windmills, make and launch straw rockets, learn about Biofuel and experience the Discovery Dome planetarium. All of the activities were FREE and provided our students and children the opportunity to be exposed to new and different things.
Discover Together held a reception for the Camp Discover families celebrating the photography of the children of Camp Discover and Story Place. The photography will be on display at Mountain Goat Market in Monteagle, TN for a couple of weeks. We encourage the community to drop in, browse, and show support for these remarkable children.
Our Discover Together Community Ambassadors teamed up with Tonya Garner, the public health educator for Grundy County to lead Cooking Matters cooking classes. Cooking Matters is part of Share Our Strengths No Kid Hungry Campaign.
We finished up our second Cooking Matters class , this time with our Co-Op parents. All participants of the 6 week program received a certificate of completion, a Cooking Matters cook book, Activ-8 Grundy aprons, and food to prepare at home from each lesson.

We had a great afternoon of community fun at our Survey Bash at T.C.E.S.! At least 106 kids attended, representing 48 families. Kids of all ages had a blast on the blow up bounce houses and slides; the "American Gladiator"was a favorite.
Over 40 parents and guardians attended Emily Partin's presentation on the results of the Community Needs Assessment survey conducted by Discover Together Fall 2015. Discover Together handed out lots of prizes, including a grand prize for participation in the survey.
A big thanks to Tracy City Elementary School for providing a free dinner to support the event.
